For August we will be using our charcoal in powdered form and talking about value and composition when planning out a landscape drawing. All you will need to complete this activity is the provided charcoal (which you can crush up in the bag if it is not already in powder form) and blending pad, along with a pencil or stick to slide into the blending pad, and an eraser.

For the month of July we are embracing the color and vibrancy of summer with a lovely little lemon watercolor painting. After all, what feels more summery that citrus and water combined. We’ll also be talking about the dry brush technique with watercolor and also a little bit of color theory to really make our lemons pop off the page.

For the month of June we are doing another drawing exercise, this time getting our imagination to run wild and letting spontaneity guide us. All you will need is a marker, pen, or other drawing utensil and the abstract watercolor page I have provided.

For the month of May we are doing a paper collage to really embrace the colors of Spring. We’ll be using the flower pattern and additional paper elements to create either a stand alone piece of art, a Spring card (perfect for Mother’s Day), or a lovely floral layout for your journals or sketchbooks. Spring is here! And with it comes an abundance of warm, colorful beauty. This month I wanted to highlight the natural beauty all around us with a watercolor painting to get us to admire the details of a flower. I have two ways of painting this month’s flower, so try the method that speaks to you the most.

For March we are taking it back to the “OG” creative hobby, drawing. Specifically we will be working on drawing in two point and single point perspective. Whether you are totally new to drawing, or you have been drawing for decades, I hope this tutorial on perspective will get your creativity flowing and allow you to use a medium you love or push you to test out different mediums that may be outside your comfort zone.

For February we are getting an introduction to embroidery by learning a starter stitch, the whipped back stitch, to complete our monogramed initial. Embroidery is a vast and detail oriented art form and there are so many stitches you can learn, and creative endeavors you can try, if you fall in love with this hobby during this project.

For January we are exploring one of my all time favorite mediums: charcoal! This is possibly the most forgiving medium there is to draw with because you can literally wipe it away with your hand or erase it clean off the paper. We are going to use this to our advantage to create a simple winter landscape scene together.
